Letter from the Artistic Director At the time I began planning my first summer school, I had been dancing in New York for many years. During that time, I was privileged to have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful choreographers, teachers and dancers. I was so inspired by their dedication and passion for dance that I wanted in some way to be able to share that experience with the young dancers of Cyprus. “A taste of new York” was created out of my desire to offer these young dancers an opportunity to train intensively over a two-week period every summer. My hope has always been that this interaction with professionals from New York would enhance their growth and development. When I first started “ A taste of New York” in 2000, there were very few dance schools in Cyprus offering more than classical ballet. My first goal was to work with the dancers to strengthen and refine their technique but I also wanted to expose them to various styles of dance. In this way, I hoped to broaden their experience in order to make them aware that there are many opportunities to work professionally. I also wanted to give the students who may have been thinking of continuing their education in dance on a university level an opportunity to meet professionals that perhaps in the future could be a direct help in their career. I am continually amazed and inspired by what these young dancers accomplish every summer. Their hard work and professionalism continues to be a source of joy for both the teachers and myself. My goal is to continue expanding the workshop and so I am extremely happy to announce that this will be the first year that the school will have an international flavor. My hope is that Cyprus will become an international center for dance and students from all over the world will come to take dance classes here. I am thankful that Cyprus has so many wonderful teachers who care for their students, parents who are willing to support their talented children and so many students who are willing to work hard to achieve their goals.
